Stay guidelines

Updated October 24, 2026.

These guidelines are for stays booked directly with Gina through the stay request. If you booked through Rover or Wag, that platform’s rules and support apply. The terms for direct bookings hold the full details.

Who we can care for

With flat-faced dogs and lowriders (short-legged dogs) in mind. Other canine friends welcome. For a direct stay, your dog needs to be:

  • At least 4 months old, with the puppy vaccine series finished.
  • Up to date on vaccines: rabies, DHPP (distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus), and Bordetella (kennel cough), with records from your veterinarian, current through the last day of the stay.
  • On flea and tick prevention.
  • Licensed where you live, with the tag on their collar or harness.
  • Free of any history of aggression, biting, or attacking a person or another animal. If your dog has that history, we are not the right fit, and we will say so kindly.

Intact dogs are welcome after a conversation. A female in heat cannot stay, so please tell us as soon as a heat starts and we will move your stay to new dates. We are not able to care for service, emotional support, or therapy dogs, or for protection, guard, police, or other working dogs.

What a stay includes

  • Daycare or overnight boarding in Gina’s home in Laveen, for up to 14 nights.
  • Your dog’s own dedicated area in the house and yard. Doug, Dex, and Sky are kept separate from visiting dogs unless you and Gina agree otherwise in your care agreement, and any time together happens only with Gina right there.
  • Your dog’s routine: meals as you portion them, rest, and walks on leash timed around the heat. Off-leash time happens only inside the fenced dog run.
  • A text with a photo each morning and evening.
  • Medication given by mouth or on the skin, from its original labeled container, with your written instructions.

What we do not offer

  • Visits to your home, house sitting, or walks that start from your home.
  • Training or grooming (we brush coats and wipe paws).
  • Injections or medical care. Gina is trained in pet first aid and CPR through Pet Tech. She is not a veterinarian, and Boss Dog Co. is not a veterinary practice.
  • Stays longer than 14 nights.

Booking and confirming

  1. Send a stay request with your dates. Then email your dog’s vaccine records from your veterinarian to hello@thebossdogco.com, not through the website form. A request is not a reservation.
  2. Gina checks that the dates are open, that the stay is 14 nights or fewer, and that each vaccine is current through the last day of the stay. She replies by email with rates and a few questions about your dog’s routine. A meet-and-greet is available if you would like one, and it is never required.
  3. If the stay is a good fit, Gina confirms the dates and sends the care agreement and the deposit invoice.
  4. Sign the care agreement and pay the 50% deposit. Your dates are held for you once both are in. A care agreement covers stays that start within 12 months of signing, so after your first stay, the deposit is usually all you need.
  5. Pay the balance at drop-off.

Cancellations are free until 7 days before the stay, or 14 days before a holiday stay. After that, the deposit is kept. If we ever need to cancel, you get a full refund.

What to bring

  • Food portioned by meal, plus a little extra.
  • A leash, and a harness or collar with ID and the license tag.
  • Medication in its original labeled container, with written instructions.
  • Something that smells like home: a bed, blanket, or favorite toy.
  • Your veterinarian’s name and phone number, and an emergency contact.

The first-stay checklist walks through the rest.

Drop-off and pick-up

Drop-off and pick-up are by appointment between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. The exact location is shared privately once your stay is confirmed. The balance is due at drop-off, and we take a few minutes to go over anything that has changed in your dog’s routine.

If you are running late at pick-up, please let Gina know. Arriving more than 2 hours after the agreed time, unless it was arranged, adds a day at the daycare rate.

Health and heat

If your dog is unwell before the stay (vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, or unusually tired), please tell us before drop-off and we will move your stay to new dates. On hot days, walks happen in the cooler parts of the day, and visiting dogs rest in the shade and indoors.

If something seems off during a stay, Gina contacts you right away, along with your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital. Emergency care follows the instructions you give in the care agreement.

If a stay is not working

If your dog becomes very stressed, unwell, or unsafe around people or other dogs, Gina will call you. You or your emergency contact will need to pick up within 4 hours.
